Yellowpoint, BC

Transpersonal psychology is a sub-field or "school" of psychology that integrates the spiritual and transcendent aspects of the human experience with the framework of modern psychology. The integration of transpersonal experiences into daily life can often present a challenge to clients working with unconventional modalities or altered states of consciousness and to therapists concerned about the optimum outcome for their clients. Yet it it the integration of the experience and not the experience itself where the real work of healing takes place. Working with somatically based practices of Kundalini Yoga, energetic boundaries, and self awareness, this workshop offers practical tools for clients and therapists alike.

Your guide will be Jana Ziman/Guru Bhai Kaur, teacher and therapist working with groups since 2003.

Holotropic Breathwork(TM) was developed by Christina and Stanislav Grof. It is a powerful method of self-exploration, personal transformation and healing, using accelerated breathing, music, art and focused release work. Participants' experiences are integrated through mutual sharing in a wisdom circle. Participants enter non-ordinary states of consciousness. From within this altered state of consciousness, we tap our rich inner resources of wisdom, clarity and healing. Holotropic Breathwork mediates access to all levels of the human psyche andthe entire spectrum of transpersonal experiences -- including unfinished personal history, birth, death-rebirth issues, and the spirit realms. This method is based on insights from many sources: modern consciousness research, depth psychology, spiritual traditions, and shamanic practices.

This event starts on Friday evening, Nov 17, with an introductory session/panel talk and discussions/dialogue, followed by a full day workshop on Saturday, Nov 18. Dr. Stan Grof joins via live video conferencing on Nov 17. This event will be led by certified Grof facilitators Dr. Ingrid Pacey and Carolyn Green, PhD.

Dr. Ingrid Pacey is a psychiatrist in private practice in Vancouver since 1975. She was introduced to psychedelic psychotherapy in 1964 as a medical student in Sydney, Australia, where she witnessed LSD psychotherapy. It left a big impression. Her psychotherapy practice has focused on the treament of PTSD since 1980. She trained in Holotropic Breathwork with Stan and Christina Grof from 1987 - 1990 and pioneered working with this modality with mostly women suffering from PTSD, from 1990 - 2014, in weekend groups as well as five-day workshops at Hollyhock Retreat Centre. She has written articles about this work. She met Rick Doblin, Founder of MAPS, during this training in 1987, and was instrumental, together with Andrew Feldmar, in bringing the MDMA/PTSD study to Vancouver, BC.

Carolyn Green, BSc(PT), PhD, started her own breathwork journey in 1993. In 1999, Carolyn completed the two-year Groef Transpersonal Training program and joined the Association of Holotropic Breathwork(TM) International. She has been leading workshops and individual sessions ever since and is a cofounder of Holotropic Breathwork is her heart work. She also does pharmaceutical safety and policy research.

After nearly 40 years of prohibition, a new wave of research has emerged in the past decade exploring the efficacy of psychedelic substances (LSD, Ibogaine, Ayahuasca, MDMA and Psilocybin) in the treatment of addictions, trauma, PTSD, end of life anxiety and depression. Join us as we hear from researchers, academics and therapists from a variety of disciplines whose interest in this field is changing the face of psychotherapy. The 2016 keynote speaker was Rick Doblin, Founder and Executive Director, of MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies).
